Astrid Aasby

Chester, NJ   Miss Astrid Aasby, 87, went peacefully home on March 30, 2014 at the Regency Grande Nursing Home in Dover. She was surrounded by close family members. She is now enjoying the fellowship of her Lord and Savior first of all, and then her parents, and other loved ones who have gone on before. It will continue throughout eternity. She was born in Brooklyn NY on November 17, 1926 to Hans and Marthe Aasby. At age 2, Astrid and her parents, and 1 year old sister, Ingrid, moved back to Norway. She lived an idyllic life there for 10 years, with beautiful snow in winter, with a ski hill, with a high jump right in their backyard. Two beautiful lakes were within easy walking distance. The ocean could be seen from high places, and there were many mountains to climb. The 2 room schoolhouse taught her world geography and history, and in 1938 started teaching English.

In November of 1938 the family moved back to Brooklyn, and after a few years there, settled on Staten Island, NY. After graduating from Curtis High School, on Staten Island, Astrid became an office worker in New York for many years. After moving to Chester, NJ with her parents in 1985, she took the train from Gladstone to New York City. When her parents died in 1987 and 1992, Astrid moved to the Chester Senior Housing, and enjoyed fellowship there. When she could no longer live alone she moved to the Mt. Arlington Senior Living, and enjoyed the good food and care there. We moved her from Mt. Arlington to Regency Grande Nursing Home in Dover when she could not stay there beyond a wheel chair. She was a retired office secretary for the Sucrest sugar company in Manhattan and previously worked for the Stone and Webster Company in Manhattan. She attended the Hillside Church in Succasunna.

She is survived by her 3 siblings; Ingrid (and Harry) Richardsen of Chester, Harold Aasby of Fergus Falls, MN, and Audrey (and Carl) Barcus of Tucson, AZ. Astrid was the beloved aunt of: Gareth, Jeffrey, Ruth, Wesley, Nancy, Lise, Audrey, Brent, Brian, Kari, Carl, Heather, Chad and Kristi. Her great nieces and nephews included: Sarah, Audrey, Austin, Carolyn, Ashley, Paul, Michele, Katlyn, Shane, Justin, Cade, Taylor, Carson, David, Emily, Ethan, Emelia and Hannah.
