Anthony Joseph Signorelli

February 21, 1948 – September 19, 2017

Anthony Joseph Signorelli was born into eternal life, surrounded by family, on September 19, 2017 after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Anthony was born in Bronx, NY on February 21, 1948 to Louise and Emilio Signorelli. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 48 years, Dolores Signorelli, his sister Barbara Signorelli, his children Laurie Ann Thompson and Michael Anthony Signorelli, their spouses Craig Thompson and Allison Signorelli, his four adoring grandchildren Brendan and Annie Thompson and Ava and Bobby Signorelli, as well as many extended family members.

A truly brilliant and deeply faithful man, Anthony proudly attended New York City public schools before graduating from Manhattan College with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry in 1969. While attending Manhattan College he was an undergraduate research associate at New York University. Anthony attended graduate school at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN where he received a PhD in physical chemistry with a dissertation on X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy Studies of Rare Earth and Iron Porphyrin Compounds.

Anthony and Dolores moved to New Jersey in 1974 where he began a career at Honeywell International, which lasted 31 years, serving in various positions. After retiring, Anthony joined the faculty of the Science Department at Pope John XXIII High School, in Sparta, New Jersey where he happily taught until 2016. A crowning achievement during his tenure was securing a donation of a scanning electron microscope that will help generations of students find the love of science he held deeply.

Anthony was ordained a Deacon in the Roman Catholic Church on May 8, 1993. During his almost 25 years as a Deacon at St. Therese Church in Succasunna, NJ, Anthony ministered to the faithful and those in need. He was a beloved figure in the church, regularly serving mass, witnessing many life events including joyfully baptizing all four of his grandchildren, and providing leadership, teaching and comfort to the parish.

Anthony led a faithful life of love and compassion and was a light in the community. He was beloved by many but none more than his great love, Dolores. Childhood sweethearts, Anthony and Dolores met as teenagers in the Bronx and began a life-long journey of mutual adoration. They shared a passion for travel, good food, great wine, music, and most importantly, their family. Their love will endure until they are reunited in the life everlasting.

A vigil service (wake) will be held on Friday, September 22^nd from 4 to 7 pm at St. Therese Roman Catholic Church, 151 Main Street, Succasunna, NJ 07876, immediately followed by a Prayer Service at 7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 23^rd, also at St. Therese Church. A private family burial will follow in Northern Virginia where Anthony’s children and grandchildren reside.
